Die Kalilauge 10 % ist ein wichtiges Hilfsmittel zur Eingrenzung von Hypoxylon Arten. Unter Zugabe von KOH sondern sie unterschiedliche Farbstoffe ab. Es gibt verschiedene Reaktionen mit KOH von oliv-grün, grün-gelb, weinrot, orange-rot.
