Ein auffallendes Erkennungsmerkmal von Phanerochaete velutina findet sich in der Größe und Lage der Lamprozystiden. Diese sind riesig und ragen weit und zahlreich aus dem Hymenium heraus (phaneros = sichtbar), was mit einer 10fach-Lupe bereits gut zu erkennen ist.
